Roche is a proud civil parish and village in mid-Cornwall. The village most likely first acquired its name after the Norman invasion, getting its name from a formidable igneous intrusion, long since left exposed by erosion. Roche Rock (Roche being the Norman-French word for rock), rises 20m to the sky flanked by Trezaise and Carbis rocks.

caption.jpgThe ruins of St Michael's Chapel are located at the summit of Roche Rock.  It is said that when the cold winter winds blow, the ghost of the unpopular 17th Century Magistrate Jan Tregeagle can be heard to howl. After his demise Tregeagle was sentenced to empty out Dozmary Pool with a limpet shell which had a hole in it.  Roche Rock was featured in "Omen 3: The Final Conflict", so imposing is its silhouette.

Nearby clay works have also seen Roche star in episodes of "Doctor Who" as well as the 60s cult classic "The Bed Sitting Room". At the parish border lies an ancient tumulus, Hensbarrow.

Roche has several holy wells, each with their own myths and legend.

With a backdrop of Roche Rock, Roche has a well maintained and specified sports and recreation complex which features a cricket field, football pitches, a recreation area and a skate park.

St Gomonda's Church lies to the other side of the recreational areas and has more evidence of former Norman occupation, having a Norman font.
